San Antonio Holiday Events – December 2025

Lights on the River Walk, lanterns in the garden, theme-park cheer, timeless shows, tamales, and more—here’s your December game plan.

Can’t-Miss Lights & Night Walks

  • Holiday Lights on the River Walk (Free) — The cypress trees sparkle every night downtown through Jan 11, 2026. Perfect for a post-dinner stroll or photos by the Arneson.
  • Illuminate at the San Antonio Botanical Garden — Hand-crafted lanterns and glowing trails run Nov 21, 2025–Jan 11, 2026; timed entries 5:30–8:30 p.m., plus special theme nights.
  • Zoo Lights — Miles of displays transform the San Antonio Zoo Nov 15, 2025–Jan 4, 2026.

River Walk Traditions

  • Ford Holiday Boat Caroling — Choirs float and sing on select nights Dec 12–23; enjoy from restaurant patios or the river banks.
  • Holiday Lights (all season) — If you missed the parade lighting in late November, the lights stay on nightly through early January.

Theme-Park Cheer

  • Holiday in the Park – Six Flags Fiesta Texas — Select dates Nov 22–Dec 23: twinkling midways, shows, and seasonal treats.
  • SeaWorld Christmas Celebration — Texas’ biggest holiday celebration runs Nov 13–Jan 4 with millions of lights, shows, and festive zones.

Stage Favorites & Big Concerts

  • Ballet San Antonio: The Nutcracker (Tobin Center) — Performances across two weekends, Dec 5–7 and Dec 12–14. Family classic, great for first-timers.
  • Trans-Siberian Orchestra — “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” at Frost Bank Center, Sun, Dec 21 (matinee & evening).
  • Mariachi Extravaganza — Festival events roll from late Nov into the first week of December; main concert with Mariachi Vargas on Dec 6 at Lila Cockrell Theatre.

Food, Markets & Community Moments

  • San Antonio Tamales Festival — First weekend of December with vendors, music, and family activities.
  • River of Lights (San Antonio River Authority) — One-night celebration with live music and “snow,” Sat, Dec 13 at the Lock & Dam.

Bonus: Citywide guides list even more lights (Windcrest, UIW Light the Way, and more) and pop-up holiday happenings throughout December.

Planning Tips for December

  • Reserve early for timed experiences (Illuminate, Zoo Lights) and for restaurant seating with River Walk views.
  • Check “select dates” at theme parks—schedules vary week to week in December.
  • Park smart downtown and consider rideshare for River Walk events; arrive 30–45 minutes ahead for caroling nights.
